Europe Stocks Set for Surge, M&A; Will Boost Biotech
The big themes investors should jump on in 2014 are Europe's recovery, increased global M&A;, and another big year for biotech and technology stocks, says Greg Sarian, managing director at HighTower Advisors. Sarian says Angela Merkel's re-election last year provides additional stability to the European economy which has already seen growth in auto and retail sales. As for the boom in M&A;, Sarian says the big beneficiaries will be small cap stocks, especially biotechs, and not necessarily the investment banks. Europe Stocks Steady, Euro Hostage To ECB Decision
European shares held steady and the euro languished near four-month lows against the dollar on Thursday. The euro was held hostage to expectations the European Central Bank will ease monetary policy to support a fragile economic recovery. In anticipation of lower interest rates, euro zone government bond yields fell. In one of its most keenly awaited decisions in years, the ECB is expected on Thursday to impose negative interest rates. Economists in a Reuters poll expected the ECB to cut its main refinancing rate to 0.10 percent from 0.25 percent, and cut its overnight deposit rate to minus 0.10 percent from zero. http://news.yahoo.com/europe-stocks-steady-euro-hostage-ecb-decision-083233096--finance.html http://www.wochit.com- published: 05 Jun 2014

European stocks decline over threat to gas supply transiting through Ukraine
European stocks have declined over Russia's threat to cut off Ukraine's gas supply to Europe. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index dropped 1.3 percent to 333.06 at the close of the day. That's a fall of 1.5 percent this week, amid concern that Russia may intervene in Ukraine, resulting in sanctions and disrupted trade. European equities slid 2.3 percent on March third after Russia's parliament authorized President Vladimir Putin to send troops into Ukraine. Ukraine is a key transit route for Russian gas to Europe. Russia says Ukraine's natural gas debt has climbed to almost two billion dollars, signaling supplies may be cut, which would ratchet up pressure on its neighbors as they scrap over the future of Ukraine's Crimea region.- published: 08 Mar 2014

Asia Stocks Slip Ahead Of Jobs, ECB Boosts Europe
European stocks edged higher a day after the European Central Bank unveiled new measures to boost economic growth but other benchmarks struggled Friday as investors awaited the U.S. jobs report for May. Global market reaction to the ECB measures, which included interest rate cuts and a new liquidity program for banks, was short-lived as investors focused on the jobs data. In early European trading, Germany's DAX rose 0.2 percent to 9,969.12 and France's CAC 40 gained 0.1 percent to 4,555.33. http://news.yahoo.com/asia-stocks-slip-ahead-jobs-ecb-boosts-europe-092451344--finance.html http://www.wochit.com- published: 07 Jun 2014
